WARNING-KEEP THE CLEANSING BALM HANDY IF YOU TRY THIS! – I gave this 3 stars because it does exactly what it claims. It’s a beautiful, cherry red stain and can be built…BUT…if you have ANY type of fine lines/scarring around your mouth (like me), it’s going to VERY quickly bleed into every single one of them, and it’s not subtle (it’s a bright red stain, obvi), especially on my pale skin. This stuff is the viscosity of water, hence the name, so any tiny error in application with this is going to leave you looking like you got punched in the mouth. If you accidentally drip this on ANYTHING (remember, this is a WATER tint, it’s easy to lose a drop), it’s going to wreck your day. Also, if you don’t take it off your face with some type of exfoliant or cleansing balm IMMEDIATELY, OMG does it stain..my mouth looks like a tributary system on a map, my TEETH are stained red (that may be my error, but still..), and it’s not cute. I didn’t get to it fast enough before it dried (which takes a whole 10 seconds so keep that cleanser handy if you try this!) so I’m going to have to try a chemical exfoliator after I re-whiten my teeth. It gets worse. After I removed as much as possible, I tried again with a lip liner (terrible idea), as well as using an oil blend around my lips, and it still bled right through and made it look like there was a whole crime scene on my face. It is the absolute worst feathering and teeth staining cosmetic product I’ve ever used. BUT WAIT! If you DON’T have fine lines around your mouth and you’re better at applying it than I was (meaning you don’t try to purse your lips out of habit w/lip products, I would just keep your lips parted until it dries to be safe), this is a really beautiful color, and I think it would be super flattering on any skin tone that takes a blue-based red well, and it definitely stays put. I think if this was in a more viscous base like polybutene, anyone could use it. I’m tempted to try it, but I don’t think I want to make this worse than it is. I would include photos, but I’m too old to lose any more dignity. I already look like I’ve been punched by a cherry popsicle and lost. This one is a hard pass for me, and I wouldn’t recommend this if you have a single fine line/scar in your vermillion border. I will stick with my ELF glossy lip stain, and that’s exactly what I’d recommend in place of this. Proceed with extreme caution, and keep that cleansing balm handy!!

Exactly what I wanted – This product is a total game changer, you can wear it as light or as dark as you want it. It is a very natural looking lip stain , doesnt smear once dry, very easy to apply. Definitely read through the reviews this product WILL stain anything it comes into contact with, which I much prefer than not working at all. I like that it feels like your not wearing any makeup , it is drying / not moisturizing at all so I highly reccomend a moisturizer after. If you are considering buying this do it!

Works as expected – This is exactly what it says. A water tint! If your going to try and apply it dark, do layers and let it dry as you go. Of course it will bleed on your lips if you use a lot. It’s watery!!! I like to use it for a little color because I’m not crazy about wearing lipstick. I do apply a clear gloss after or a chapstick for the moisture.

Beautiful tints – I bought the orange and red colors. the orange looks great for summer time looks, and the red looks good all year round. I normally apply it like how you’d see it on social media, where it’s strongest in the center, and fades out around the edges, but you can also apply it full on like a regular lip stain. the watery texture makes it prone to bleeding, so sometimes i use a lip liner that matches my skin tone. both colors look great on dark skin (i am around a mac NW45 or a Fenty 420-440 for reference). It’s also not drying, but you do need to make sure your lips are scrubbed and moisturized beforehand because it will expose that if its dry and flaky before you apply it.

great tint but the scent is SO strong and gross – smells like cheap candy, sort of like skittles and is very overpowering. the tint is great and actually stronger / less watery than benefit.

Eh – It actually didnt give me any moisturization or sheerness to be honest. I had to put a lip oil ontop. Id say it lasts long though. When i first opened it u have to be careful which side you’re opening it from because if you open it upside down, the formula is so loose it’ll all fall out and stain everything near you so yea. I know it’s literally called “water” but i feel like a little thickening of the formula would be good because even when applying the watery formula it just runs into the cracks of my lips and makes those areas look darker red which is why i had to layer a pink colored lip stain over it. Not a waste of but there’s probably better ones out there.

Really happy with this lip stain – Strawberry Ade (21AD) – I’m so happy with this lip product! So happy I finally found a stain that is buildable and lasts a long time. You can really build up the stain but it takes a couple of tries to get the right shade. Definitely recommend playing with it on the back of your hand first. The photo shows the same lip stain with 1, 2, and 3 layers of the strawberry ade 21AD stain (not shown in that order). The product is not moisturizing or drying but I will accentuate dry lips so exfoliate before applying it.
